Rodman signs a new contract for the building of two new Passenger Catamarans for the Dutch Owner Aqualiner
Rodman is about to start building two new passenger catamarans, 35 m. length each. These will be the largest passenger catamarans built in GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) in Spain and two of the largest for inland fast ferry passenger transport in Europe.
In the last years, Rodman has designed, built and satisfactorily delivered different types of catamarans, not only for the transport of passengers but for other purposes such as hydrographic and research tasks or support to offshore wind mills.
The experience acquired positions Rodman as one of the leading European Shipyards for this type of vessels.
The new catamarans, whose building will start in the coming days, will set a turning point for Rodman as these will be the largest passenger catamarans in GRP, designed and built in Spain.
After several months of negotiation, the Dutch company Aqualiner, specialized in maritime transport of passengers with fast ferry vessels, has trusted in Rodman to carry out the expansion of its current fleet. Since July 2017, this experienced company is involved in an important mobility project in Antwerp. To be more specific, Aqualiner operates several ferries on the river Schelde to offer a good alternative for commuters, students and tourists on a Public Transport basis and through high frequency timetables. For Aqualiner, since 1999 involved in several similar projects like Waterbus Rotterdam, the services in Antwerp are the first international expansion and it is their expectation that they will be active in more countries, areas and cities with mobility challenges and congestion issues.
Both vessels, of 35 m. in length each, will be built under the European Standard ES (TRIN). Each of them will be capable of transporting 248 passengers. Also, each Catamaran will be provided with bicycle racks on deck with capacity for 63 bicycles and upper deck for the enjoyment of passengers during navigation in the different seasons along the year.
The estimated delivery time will be 8 months.
The construction of these new catamarans represents a new challenge for the Shipyard, where all the building experience and qualification, the current quality standards and customer’s requirement will be brought together.
